Since most of the local population only speaks Portuguese, it's important for immigrants/refugees to learn the local language as quickly as possible to facilitate communication.
Volunteers, universities, and other institutions offer Portuguese language courses for those who have arrived from abroad and want to learn the basics of the language. Search for these opportunities and sign up.
Take, as an example, the Portuguese as a host language (PLAc) course for migrants and refugees, offered by the project “Refugees and Migrants in Paraíba: welcome and integrate (REFMIGPB), from UFPB.
There is also the project MOBILANG, from UFPB, which acts for the access to social and linguistic rights of migrants in Paraíba
There are still other projects of entities that can welcome and help you. In case of doubts, always ask for help.
